Donnie Yen & John Salvitti reteam...

Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 11th September 2013

Donnie Yen and regular collaborator John Salvitti are continuing to re-team on a range of projects over the next few months...

October 2013 will see the release of two highly anticipated martial arts movies, Tom Yum Goong 2 will see Tony Jaa returning to the big screen in 3D, while Donnie Yen will also hit the big screen across China and Hong Kong with the release of the highly anticipated martial arts thriller Special ID.

The latter film directed by Dragon From Russia helmer Clarence Ford, follows Yen’s character: an undercover Cop who has spent years infiltrating the biggest crime family in China, putting his own life and those of his family at risk many times. He’s been undercover so long, he’s struggling to remember if he’s a cop pretending to be a criminal, or a criminal pretending to be a cop.

But when another undercover officer’s identity is revealed and the gang begins to tear itself apart, Yen must battle to protect the lives of those he loves and his own special identity once and for all.

We’ve been excited about this project since we first heard of it back in early 2012, since then we’ve been privileged enough to get a few inside-looks at some of the action sequences... from the high octane car chase staged by Bruce Law and his team (which has to be seen to believed, as characters race through the mean streets of Shenzhen, fighting eachother as they drive) through some incredible high impact bone-crunching martial arts sequences choreographed by Yen and his longtime associate John Salvitti (pictured on the left).

Salvitti who has worked with Yen on a number of projects dating back to In the Line of Duty 4 and Tiger Cage 2, brings his extensive real life martial arts skills into play just as much as his choreographic skills to bring some reel hard-core mixed martial artistry into play, as can be seen in Salvitti’s new behind the scenes footage reel, which he dedicates to his friend and mentor Donnie Yen...

If you haven’t already been excited by the earlier trailers and behind the scenes footage, then this should push you over the edge.

Salvitti has also been bringing some of his skill set into use on both Iceman Cometh and Last of the Best, and we’ll be talking to Salvitti about real life martial arts and reel deal martial arts in an upcoming interview. Special ID will be reviewed here soon...
