RIP - Wu Ma, Actor / Director

Impact remembers the man and the movies of veteran actor/director Wu Ma who passed away aged 71 on the morning of Feb 4th 2014, from cancer.

RIP Wu MaBorn on the 28th May 1942, Wu Ma/Ng Ma was a Chiense actor, director, producer and writer who made his screen debut in 1963, and racked up over 180 films as an actor in addition to 38 films as a director. 

Wu began working as an actor before progressing to be legendary director Chang Cheh's assistant on such projects as Golden Swallow and The Water Margin. He would go on to play memorable roles in various films working with everyone from Jackie Chan in Miracles, through Sammo Hung in Iron Fisted Monk and Dead & Deadly andYuen Biao in Above the Law and The Prodigal Son.

He's probably best known in the West for his memorable turn as the rapping Tao'ist priest in A Chinese Ghost Story, and  for co-directing Just Heroes with John Woo. He was a truely prolific figure both in front and behind the camera in Hong Kong Cinema, and will be well remembered by all of us.
