Clooney not the Man from Uncle?

Another remake will go into production in the new year, but it now looks as if its possible lead is seeming less likely. So is Clooney not going to be an Uncle? 

George Clooney has been mooted as the star of The Man from Uncle, the big-screen remake of the 60s series that  originally starred Robert Vaughn (Hustle) and David McCallum (NCIS).  However news sources are suggesting that Clooney may not end up being the 'Man' in question - though the reason for his withdrawl from the project are less clear.

Director Steven Soderbergh, who has worked with Clooney on a number of projects such as Ocean's Eleven and Out of Sight) remains with the project and it is believed that Warner Bros are still aiming for an early 2012 start to filming.Soderbergh's latest film, Contagion (with Matt Damon) is out in the US at the end of next week...
