Halfworlds

HBO Asia’s original series returns for a second run at the end of January…

HBO Asia‘s fantasy drama series Halfworlds will formally return for a second series on 22nd January. For those not already familiar with the show, it is set in a world where just off the bustling streets and back alleys there exists a parallel reality of bloodthirsty demons, creatures who have existed alongside humanity for thousands of generations. Taking on the appearance of humans themselves, the true identity of these ‘Demit’ or “Peesaj’ has been carefully concealed for centuries. In Bangkok,  a research archaeologist, driven to prove the research of her late father, is searching for an ancient artifact of great power, but her quest brings her to the attention of the local Thai Peesaj.

While the first season was set in the back alleys of Jakarta and overseen by Indonesian director Joko Anwar, the second season will shifts to the neon-lit streets of Bangkok and is helmed by Skin Trade and Beautiful Boxer director Ekachai Uekrongtham. Collin Chang will be returning as screenwriter.

.Indonesian actors Reza Rahadian (Habibie and Ainun) and Anfin Putra (The Raid 2) reprise their roles from the first season, while a multi-national cast joins the second run. The cast includes Peem Jaien (Hormones), Tia Tavee (Asia’s Next Top Model), Emma Grant (The Idol Game), Myra Molly (Thailand’s Got Talent), Nicole Theriault (Phobia 2), Teresa Daly (Grace), Charlie Ruedpojanon (Man with the Iron Fists 2), David Asavanond (Warrior King, 2), and the petite powerhouse Jija Yaneen (Chocolate, Raging Phoenix).

According to HBO Asia‘s CEO Jonathan Spink said: “Halfworlds was created to transcend geographical boundaries.” Its international cast and crew on locations in both Bangkok and at Infinite Studios in Bataam, Indonesia seem to prove that out.
