Okay, we’re just joking… not a SINGLE nod for Deadpool. Grrrr. But with the Oscars/Academy Awards only weeks away, the formal nominee announcements were made this morning with a diverse slate if few surprises…
Once again it’s an expansive list of titles, people and talent though perhaps there’s very few actual surprises in the nominations except in a few categories where some potential nominees weren’t picked.There’s science-fiction (though it’s the quiet and thoughtful Arrival, not the big-budget Rogue One that gets the stellar categories), drama (Hell or High Water, Hacksaw Ridge – the latter also receiving a director nomination for Mel Gibson, ending his time in the wilderness ), social-commentary (Fences, Hidden Figures) and, of course, the return of the musical with La-La Land…
However Deadpool, a massive critical and (proportionally for its budget) commercial success, didn’t get a single nod – denying the world the chance to see a ‘ridiculous’ reaction performance that star Ryan Reynolds had promised to show if the film got a nomination.
