Trailer: Donnie Yen's Special Identity

Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 28th July 2013

As we wish Donnie Yen a happy birthday, we also take the chance to offer the new trailer for his latest project Speicial Identity...

Director Clarence Ford (Dragon From Russia) was at the helm for SPECIAL ID, the latest Donnie Yen action thriller. The production hit a few obstacles including ‘creative differences’ seeing original co-star Vincent Zhao (Zhao Wen-zhao) leaving the film and a number of public disagreements and accusations clouded the rest of production and post-production (with there even being some question as to the film ever being released!)

Luckily, those issues seem to have finally been resolved and the first trailer for film has just been released;

The film co-stars New Police Story’s Andy On - who takes on Yen in a brutal grudge match - and Collin Chou (The Matrix Reloaded) who faces Yen once more, having previously battled him in City of Darkness and Flashpoint.  Yen plays the role of Zilong Chen, an undercover police officer deep within the ranks of one of China’s most ruthless underworld gangs. The leader of the gang, Xiong , has made it his priority to weed out the government infiltrators in his midst. Struggling to keep his family together and his identity concealed, Chen is torn between two worlds. Upping the stakes -as Chen’s undercover comrades are being dealt with, one by one - Chen fears his days are numbered. Now, he must risk everything to take down the organisation and reclaim the life he lost when he took on this perilous assignment.

The film features fight choreography by Yen and longtime collaborator John Salvitti, while Bruce Law delivers some very impressive high octane gunplay and vehicular mayhem including one hell of an epic car chase.
