Everyone at Impact likes to see something a little different from the usual big studio projects and it was Neal Molyneaux who pointed us in the direction of this little gem. The Flying Man is a film short created by Marcus Alqueres as a pitch and show-rrl for a longer project - one we'd definitely like to see made. It sets the scene for a city that suddenly finds itself 'protected' by a super-powered vigilante... but this ain't your friendly neighbourhood Superman - quite the opposite.
Marcus Alqueres is a director based in Toronto, Canada. Originally from Brazil, Marcus began his career in 2002 as a visual effects artist and animator on commercial advertising projects. In 2005, Marcus made the move to feature film work and has since worked internationally with top Visual effects production facilities on A-list feature projects such as 300, Source Code, Rise of The Planet of The Apes, and The Adventures of Tintin. Marcus currently divides his time between developing and directing his own agenda of film projects alongside ongoing work as a VFX and animation supervisor.
The Flying Man short was produced under a very low budget and it was only possible due to the collaboration of friends and passionate and talented artists. With his background in visual effects, Marcus was able to accomplish around 60 vfx shots with a valuable help of another visual effects veteran João Sita within a short period of time for nearly no money.
