Donnie Yen’s slate of work continues to increase. Alongside the much-anticipated ‘Rogue One‘ and ‘XXX‘ appearances, he’ll be returning to Hong Kong for more action projects…
While Donnie Yen will unleash something of a double-whammy with the upcoming releases of Star Wars: Rogue One and XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, he has not turned his back on his Hong Kong roots. Yen will be playing real-life gangster Ng Sik-ho (also known as Crippled Ho or Limpy Ho) in the Wong Jing produced Chasing the Dragon, a 70s set action thriller.
The film will be produced by uber-producer/director Wong Jing (God of Gamblers) with Helios & Cold War 1 and 2 cinematographer Jason Kwan directing. Andy Lau is currently in talks to co-star.
The story of Ng Sik-ho has been brought to the screen before – most notably in 1991’s classic To Be Number One, which saw Ray Lui Leung-wai give the performance of his career, alongside a veritable who’s who of Hong Kong cinema at the time – including Kent Cheng ( Run & Kill), Cecillia Yip, Amy Yip (Robotrix), Waise Lee (The Big Heat), Kenneth Tsang (A Better Tomorrow), Lo Lieh and so many others.
Yen is also linked to a number of other projects including a new take on Wisely, Dragon City, The Master, Noodle Man, possible further adventures for Ip Man, as well as a possible Flash Point sequel…and the much delayed Ice Man 2 (a trailer for which surfaced at this year’s Hong Kong Filmart).
