Scott Adkins is keeping busy and his next project before the camera, The Returner, should give him something to crow about in the immortality department…
Scott Adkins is looking to have a pretty prolific 2016. As well as furthering the Undisputed franchise and appearing in next month’s Criminal (which also stars Kevin Costner and Ryan Reynolds), he appeared in the recent comedy Grimsby, has completed work on Hard Target 2 and The Eliminators and filmed scenes for Marvel‘s upcoming Doctor Strange. He has now been formally announced as the lead in a new action outing, The Returner.
Industry site Deadline reports that the period drama/action film from Boundless Pictures (specifically their genre label ‘Firebrand‘ ) has been written by Chad Law and will be directed by William Kaufman. The story, with certain parallels to The Crow, sees Adkins cast as John Piper who owns a speakeasy bar in the prohibition era of the 1920s and refuses to sell the alcohol demanded by Al Capone. He and his family are subsequently murdered, but he somehow returns from the grave with a cat-like nine lives in which to dispense justice or revenge.
The Returner is believed to have a modest budget of $10 million, not untypical for the Firebrand label and will shoot later this year.
Scott also recently talked exclusively to Impact about his support for the stunt community…
