Gone in a Flash? Director leaves DC Universe movie…

The Flash

While Marvel’s fortunes seem steady and on the rise, it’s been an awkward week for DC with at least one of their directors leaving their universe of upcoming projects…

Even with Marvel quietly cancelled upcoming plans for their Inhumans movie (a possible casualty of the musical chairs of responsibility and control at Marvel Studios) they are still experiencing critical acclaim from the first screenings of Captain America: Civil War (our review will be up this week). But it’s been another iffy one for the DC/Warner side of the superhero equation. News comes that Seth Grahame-Smith, who was attached to both write and direct the big-screen version of The Flash (starring Ezra Miller) has now left the project with the reason being circulated as the ever-reliable go-to of ‘creative differences’.  The film will be another building-block in the DC Universe of characters, one glimpsed in a key scene from the recent Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice outing. Unlike Marvel, DC/Warner are not connecting the dots between their television output and their cinematic strand. The Ezra Miller version of the The Flash will not have anything but the source material in common with The CW series of the same name which stars Grant Gustin (pictured above).

Grahame-Smith, best known for penning the likes of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (and currently involved with The Lego Batman Movie and the much-discussed Beetlejuice sequel) would have made his directorial debut with the movie which is still currently slated for a 2018 release.

Not helping the situation, there have also been rumours circulating that James Wan, currently lined up to direct the Aquaman movie was also having  concerns, though there’s been nothing to confirm this apart from reports from anonymous sources so far and Wan himself seems to have denied it…
