I've got a girl-crush on Michonne...
It’s often said that mainstream comics contain a lot of kick-ass female characters that are merely a pair of barely-covered breasts attached to a variation of the existing male heroes. That’s hardly true of the non-superhero but still kick-ass characters essayed in Image’s The Walking Dead title created by Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard and Tony Moore. And despite the fact she carries a ninja-regulation katana, the character of Michonne – a dreadlocked, bandana-wearing African-American with an interesting line in zombie-deterrents - who joins Rick’s group of survivors in #19, she immediately made an impression with her actions and attitude rather than her outline.
So here’s the thing: Michonne, the oft-mysterious and stoic character on AMC’s own version of The Walking Dead series, is the kind of character women want for a BFF. Well, at least ME. She doesn’t talk too much; she’s protective, sentimental, and she’ll bust her butt to help those with whom she takes under her wing...er, cloak. The katana master with a steel spine and a heart of gold. Who could ask for more?
