It’s a case of Seoul survivors as Sang-ho Yeon’s live-action, undead thriller ‘Train to Busan’ takes the concept of a post-apocalyptic bullet train and the passengers’ only chance of outrunning a zombie apocalypse…
Well Go USA, responsible for releasing the likes of Hou Hsiao-Hsien’s The Assassin, Wilson Yip’s Ip Man 3, and Na Hong-jin’s The Wailing to American audiences, will also be distributing the Sang-ho Yeon-scripted / directed zombie thriller Train to Busan.
The Korean-set story depicts a train-load of scared passengers trapped on a bullet-train on the edge of a zombie apocalypse. As they speed along and the world outside goes to hell, they face challenges from without and within. They are supposedly heading for a ‘Safe Zone’ but does that even exist any more?
The film, something of a thematic sequel to Yeon’s animated Seoul Station, started receiving a lot of attention after taking part in the Cannes International Film Festival‘s selection of ‘Midnight Screenings‘ and was well-reviewed with critics noting that despite a World War Z theme, it also shared some ideas with Joon Ho-Bong’s acclaimed Snowpiercer.
Well Go USA now plans to release the film into cinemas in the US and Canada next month. It will also debut in a wide release in France in August. There’s no news as yet on a UK release…
