Along with this month’s SENI event there will also be a parallel cinematic strand to proceedings with Cineworld hosting the ‘1st Fighting Spirit Film Festival’…
Saturday July 16th will see Seni/Combat & Strength Show taking over London’s 02 venue for a day of martial arts and more. And while we love kicking and punching as much as the next man or woman, we love seeing it on screen even more. Cineworld will be hosting the 1st Fighting Spirit Film Festival… thanks to co-founder Soo Cole who has gathered a great selection including three features and twelve shorts.
The cinematic event says that its aims are to:
Promote martial arts and action films from grass roots to big budget films.
Screen short films by upcoming talent before more mainstream feature films
Widen the potential audience to these short films and to the genre of martial arts and action.
Launch upcoming talent and in future show more content with the possibility of full length features.
- Bring together the martial arts and action film fan and film making community and inspire others to participate in martial arts and/or make films with martial arts and action content.
- To represent martial arts and action as being a positive thing for society, so each festival we will aim to support a charity with some of the proceeds as long as costs are covered.
Launch the festival by hosting alongside SENI: The Combat & Strength Show in this its inaugural year.
Soo says that they hope that ‘…by making this an annual event that it will help create a stronger market for martial arts and action films, support and grow the legacy of films in the genre gone before and continue to entertain, inspire, amaze and enlighten audiences…’
The three very different features are Kung Fu Panda 3, Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master and Donnie Yen’s Ip Man 3, while among the shorts we’re looking forward to are Mersey Cop star Matt Routledge’s return to action with Fixer (starring Daniel O’Neil from Bangkok Adrenaline), Chris Chung’s Handuken, David Cheung’s The Real Target and Ross Boyask’s Salvation. The screenings start at 10am and will go till 8pm, with tickets available for individual screenings or a full day movie pass enabling access to all screenings.
