Director Kevin Tancharoen rescued the Mortal Kombat series from development hell, where it had languished since the two Mortal Kombat live action movies and the subsequent brief TV series, when he put his own money on the table to shoot Mortal Kombat Rebirth a few short years ago.
The universally positive response to the 10 minute short, saw Warner Brothers entrusting Tancheroen who previously helmed the remake of Fame, with the opportunity to make Mortal Kombat Legacy, a series of short films showing the origins of certain characters from the franchise, including Britkicker Darren Shahlavi as Kano!
The first series was very well recieved, and while we're still waiting for Tancharoen to be given the greenlight for a full length Mortal Kombat feature, we're looking forward to the imminent arrival of the second series of Mortal Kombat: Legacy.
The Mortal Kombat Legacy continues in Season 2 as Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kenshi, and Ermac join the ranks. The rivalries and histories of these fierce warriors will unfold as Raiden and his recruits clash against the dark forces of Outworld. The epic battle for Earthrealm has finally begun.
Starring Casper Van Dien as Johnny Cage, Brian Tee as Liu Kang, Mark Dacascos as Kung Lao, Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion, Michelle Lee, Eric Jacobus and a returning Cary Tagawa as bad guy Shang Tsung, a role that he originally played in Paul W.S. Andersons 1995 movie Mortal Kombat. Ace fight choreographer Larnell Stovall (Undisputed 3) also returns for the second season.
No word yet on an official release date but the full trailer for Season 2 has just been released
