While we wait with bated breath for the first official teaser trailer for Gareth Evans' The Raid 2: Berandal, Evans' Merantau Films has announced its next project: The Night Comes For Us. It will see Joe Taslim (who made the leap from The Raid to a scene stealing appearance in Fast & Furious 6) playing the lead, alongside 'Mad Dog' himself Yayan Ruhian, for director Timo Tjahjanto.
The gangster thriller will be directed by Timo with Evans producing and directing the action sequences (which will be choreographed by Iko Uwais and his team). Evans and Timo most recently collaborated on the Safe Haven segment of the VHS 2 anthology. The Night Comes For Us tells of Taslim’s mob enforcer struggling to seek atonement for his brutal gangland life. Yayan, who will be seen as a new character in The Raid 2, will also appear alongside Marko Zaror (most recently seen in Machete Kills) for One Good Thing directed by Kimo Stamboel from a script by Todd Brown.
It was also formally announced on Tuesday that Sony Pictures Classics and Stage 6 Films will jointly be involved in the distribution of The Raid 2 within the U.S.
