The current season of American dramas is till far from finished (many will round-off their current runs during the 'May sweeps') but already some of the networks are making their first decisions about which of their current programmes will be back for the 2014-2015 season. With many NEW series expected to debut in the Autumn/Fall line-up, only the top-performers will be assured of returning.
Industry site Deadline notes that CBS has just announced that it iS renewing some of its biggest and most critically-lauded shows. The likes of NCIS and NCIS: LA were obvious no-brainers as they often lead the ratings (and new show NCIS: New Orleans is under consideration to join them) . Equally, Criminal Minds has been a firm part of their schedules. We're very glad to see an early renewal for Person Of Interest, which we think has had its strongest season to date. Elementary, Hawaii Five-0 (with new series regular - and another LOST refugee - Jorge Garcia) and Blue Bloods have also got the nod after solid ratings throughout their 2013-2014 run to date. Soapy legal drama The Good Wife is also guaranteed a place.
NOT included in the line-up of renewals as yet are The Mentalist and Intelligence. The former underwent a major reworking after concluding it's Red John saga but has acheived decent ratings - so it could well find a place later on. Intelligence has had a much more shaky critical reaction and it's tempting to think it may not make the grade...
