Rob Cohen (director of action movies ranging from xXx, The Fast and the Furious, Daylight, Dragonheart, Stealth, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story and Alex Cross) will be heading to China for his next project. Though it's been rumoured for some time, Paramount and China Film Co. formally announced the news during a press conference in Beijing today that Cohen has been hired to will helm the 3D fantasy/action film Marco Polo.
The very nature of the production's subject-matter lends itself to an international appeal and is likely to see an equally diverse cast - though specifics are few at this point. It is believed that though it will be a 'period piece' and biopic in some respects, there may also be a fantastical elements as part of the story. It is one of a growing trend of movies being shot in China and benefitting from financial, d co-produced budgets that allow access to Eastern talent and facilities and screens as a result of pooling resources.
The production will shoot within China later in 2014, probably starting shooting around October.
