Ship-[REC]'d? New 'Apocalypse' trailer debuts...

12th December 2014

That little red light is back as the zombie virus starts claiming more victims. But will the latest [REC] be all at sea... or even more 'apocalyptic'..?

REC 4 set for February 2015 release in UKFor some it's one of the few new and genuinely scary horror-franchises to come along in quite a while - all the more impressive as it conquered an international market despite being filmed in Spain and spoken in Spanish. The original [REC] turned the idea of the p.o.v. / lost footage format into a vehicle for exploring another genre: zombies, as a film-crew get trapped into a urban, quarantined building as a virus breaks out around them.

As a rule that format played out through the sequels, though '3' stepped away into more grand guignol tongue-in-cheek theatrics which divided audiences (we still liked it!). Now the fourth and 'final' chapter is almost here.  The film received its launch for Hallowe'en in Spain but is slowly rolling out across Europe and America. It will be able to be seen in US cinemas and the video-on-demand format from 2nd January 2015 where it is being distributed by Magnet Releasing. It will hit UK cinemas several weeks later on 27th February.

Much of this fourth film takes place on an ocean-going ship, but ties together various strands of the saga so far... Manuela Velasco Díez, who played reporter Ángela Vidal in the first two films returns to the role and there are also references to the third film with a survivor from the doomed wedding reception which was its backdrop.

The rather gruesome new red-band trailer, intended for adult audiences, is below...
