Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard (who also directed) produced the horror film - which was due to hit cinemas at the end of 2009 and had good word of mouth about quality and box-office chances. However the release was put on hold due to deciding to convert it into the 3D format and then because of the financial problems that MGM experienced prior to announcing bankruptcy (also delaying the Bond franchise). One advantage to the delay is that one of its stars Chris Hemsworth is now a much bigger name thanks to headlining Thor and working with Whedon again on next year’s The Avengers.
According to Deadline, Lionsgate are making a deal with MGM and expect to release the film - which also stars Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford sometime around October.
