The Lady's not for Landing?

Michelle Yeoh is considered by many to be the first lady of eastern action, but her latest role has run into some serious political problems...

30 June 2011

Beloved by action fans and known to the mainstream cinema-goers for roles in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Tomorrow Never Dies, Michelle Yeoh loves the tough roles, but apparently she couldn't win over authorities in Burma when she was detained on arrival at Yangon airport and then quickly deported.

The reason was that Yeoh is filming 'The Lady' which tells the story of Suu Yii, the Nobel Peace Prize winner and leader of Burma's fight against military dictatorship. The film recalls her life from when she was first detained in 1989 and then later kept under house arrest for seven years until last year. Yeoh had met the activist last December as part of her research, but authorities declined to allow another visit and Yeoh wasput on the first flight out of the area with the reasoning that she was now 'on a black-list'.

The Lady will be released this October.
