Blade Keeps Running?

Ridley Scott looks set to be revisting another of his past successes with the news that a new Blade Runner may be hitting its stride in the near future...

19 August 2011

With the (now more than) rumours that Ridley Scott’s forthcoming Prometheus (due in cinemas on June 8th 2012) is heavily - or at least significantly – linked to the Alien franchise, it appears that Scott may also be revisiting one of his other famous outings. In quite stunning news it seems that Scott has signed up to direct and produce a movie that will tie-in to Blade Runner – the seminal science-fiction movie, based on Philip K Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? - which starred Harrison Ford on the trail of a group of escaped Replicants (played by the likes of Rutger Hauer and Daryl Hannah).

It is not known if the film will act as either a prequel or sequel to the 1982 movie that is remembered for its hugely ambitious cinematography and art direction, imagining a world of the not-too-distant future (of 2019) that was a mish-match of neon, different cultures and high skyscrapers. Scott will be partnering with Alcon Entertainment who also produced The Blind Side. Alcon acquired the rights to a sequel earlier this year and Scott’s involvement certainly raises the stakes.

There is no news of any casting, specifics of story elements or released date, but one hopes it will arrive before 2019 – though fans would appreciate the irony…
