'13' Lucky again for Besson?

27th October 2011

The acclaimed District 13 / Banlieue 13 parkour actioner looks to be getting a US remake with original co-writer Luc Besson onboard.

Fast and Furious franchise star Paul Walker may be on board the project, known as Brick Mansions, which would see Paris swapped for an American locale and Walker's character trying to locate a weapon of mass destruction in a complex, heavy-built inner-city ghetto. The current plan, apparently insisted upon by Besson, also appears to be for David Belle, who appeared in the original and its sequel (Ultimatum) to reprise his role in the reimagined version.  Pierre Morel directed the original movie, but early rumours from the Deadline site suggest that 'another Besson protege' is likely to step in to helm the US version.

Besson is currently readying to promote his Aung San Suu Kyi biopic with Michelle Yeoh. Walker looks set to film the sixth F&F outing after Brick Mansions if everythign goes according to plan.
