HBO with a Shotgun, mutants, treasure!

Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 24th September 2012

HBO Asia looks to make its original feature debut with Dead Mine - mixing a range of traditional sci-fi and horror factors...

How's this for a sure-fire mix of genres? A ragtag group of  well-armed treasure hunters are seeking Yamashita’s gold - a Japanese treasure that was lost on a remote Indonesian island after World War II. Each member of the group has their own personal reasons for being on the mission. The expedition takes a science-fiction and horror turn when the team encounters mutants in an underground bunker!

Yes, the first original feature produced by HBO Asia can boast all those ingredients. The action horror Dead Mine, stars cult Japanese actress Miki Mizuno (from the Hard Revenge Milly and Sniper series, Indonesian actors Ario Bayer, Joe Taslim (from The Raid - and currently working on Fast & Furious Six), Carmen Soo, Jimmy Taenaka and Sam Hazeldine.

The film was written by Steven Sheil & Ziad Semaan and directed by Sheil (the acclaimed Mum & Dad) and produced by Erika North, David Simonsen, Mike Wiluan, Daniel Davila and Freddie Yeo at the new IFW studios in Bataam, Indonesia.

It will make its theatrical and satelitie TV debut across South East Asia this autumn...
