12th June 2014

There's a raft of talent attached to 'Rise of the Legend', a look at the early days of Hung Gar's legendary Wong Fei Hung, now due for release in late 2014...

Rise of the LegendRoy Chow (Murderer, Nightfall) is also the director of the forthcoming Rise of The Legend  telling the story of the legendary martial artist Wong Fei Hung - the man whose ground-breaking work in the art of Hung Gar in the 1920s has been seen as the inspiration for countless films and television shows that would come decades later

Industry site Deadline reports that the film, written by  Christine To and now in post-production, will be released later in 2014 and sees Peng Yujan (Eddie Peng) in the title role. It will also boast the likes of Angelbaby as the female lead, Sammo Hung (also lending his talents to the choreography), Tony Leung, Wang Luodan, Jing Boran, Wong Cho Lam and Zhang Jin. You may even glimpse our own Mike Leeder in the mix as well as an evil foreigner.

The film will be released internationally by Universal Pictures, partnered with Edko Films and Irresistible Films and an American release is already on the cards.

“We think western audiences will respond to Rise Of The Legend just as strongly as they did to Fearless. We are confident Rise Of The Legend will revive the kung-fu genre and the modern Wong Fei Hung character portrayed by Peng Yuyan will appeal to moviegoers of all ages, local and abroad," said  producer and Edko chief Bill Kong in a statement.
