Narcos Season 1 Review

‘Flix and Drugs and Rock ‘n’roll…Netflix are bringing one of their best original series’ to DVD… the much acclaimed ‘Narcos‘  following the personal history of Pablo Escobar, the infamous Columbian drug lord and trafficker…

Netflix Originals are becoming increasingly more popular along Netflix subscribers, and it’s no wonder with series’ such as Narcos, Orange is the New Black and, of course, Stranger Things.

Common with many other Netflix Originals, Narcos has used some actors that are not always well known to wider audiences. Wagner Moura stars as Escobar, portraying his history and how he became one of the most notorious drug lords of history. The entire first series of Narcos is 10 episodes long, starting from the late 1970s when he first became involved with manufacturing cocaine to his escape from prison in July 1992. The initial episodes follow Escobar’s early years, starting with him being a black marketer – smuggling illegal goods into Columbia during a time where they were strictly forbidden… through to him then meeting his future business partner Moreno – an underground chemist, a man who pitches the idea that they both go into the cocaine business together – Moreno manufacturing the cocaine and Escobar smuggling it into the US.

If you liked Breaking Bad, I can guarantee that you will like Narcos. The chronicles of Escobar’s life rang some bells when watching the series – an underground chemist manufacturing cocaine and a black marketer distributing the product. Of course, the major difference between Breaking Bad and Narcos is the latter follows an amazingly true story about crime, politics, and greed.

Overall the series was received with mostly positive reviews from critics on the online movie database and score aggregator IMDb, the series scored 9.0/10 based on over 81,000 user reviews which is an admirably high score for a series that hasn’t had the publicity push of some of its peers.

It is available to buy on DVD format now and is still available on Netflix itself…
