MCM London Comic Con’s latest special guest is one of Hong Kong’s top action stars and a true martial arts legend – Donnie Yen! Recently starring on our screens as Star Wars: Rogue One’s blind warrior Chirrut Îmwe, Yen is an acclaimed actor, director, producer and fight choreographer as well as a highly accomplished martial artist. We’re delighted to announce that Donnie Yen will be meeting fans on the Friday and Saturday of May’s show..
A charismatic leading man and one of Asia’s most popular film stars, Donnie Yen has appeared in a host of hit movies, including the hugely successful Ip Man franchise, which tells the story of Bruce Lee’s martial arts teacher. Ip Man also reunited Donnie Yen with Sammo Hung and Simon Yam, his co-stars in 2005 cop thriller SPL: Sha Po Lang.
Donnie Yen is also well known in the West for his appearance in 2002 blockbuster Hero, which featured a stunning duel between Yen’s character Sky and Jet Li’s nameless protagonist. It wasn’t the first time that Yen crossed fists with real-life friend Jet Li – the pair also clash on-screen in Tsui Hark’s award-winning Once Upon a Time in China II.
Meanwhile, Donnie Yen’s Hollywood career recently saw him star alongside Vin Diesel and Samuel L. Jackson in xXx: Return of Xander Cage, while he both appeared in and acted as fight choreographer on Guillermo del Toro’s cult favourite vampire actioner Blade II.
Donnie Yen’s other big screen credits include 2007 Hong Kong Film Award winner Flash Point; Shanghai Affairs; Dragon Tiger Gate; 14 Blades; Kung Fu Jungle; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel Sword of Destiny and Legend of the Fist: The Return of Chen Zhen, which sees Yen star in a role made famous by Bruce Lee in the 1972 classic Fist of Fury.
