It’s official. Work has finally begun on Deadpool 2. Star Ryan Reynolds announced the first day of production by posting a photo of the clapperboard to his Instagram account with the following text:
“The sun sets on day 1. Feels good to be back. This dog can hunt”
The first film, an anarchic R-rated tangent to the rest of the Marvel superhero universe and featuring the titular ‘Merc with a Mouth’ was a cult hit and critical success for all concerned. The cursing and vulgarity may not have been to everyone;s taste but it was a movie that, refreshingly, embraced its own absurdity and didn’t feel it had been compromised by studio interference.
Not much is known about the story in the sequel, though we do know that Josh Brolin (aka Thanos) has signed on as Cable, Zazie Beetz as the mutant mercenary Domino with The Strain’s Jack Kesy as an as-yet-unnamed villain. John Wick’s co-director David Leitch has taken the helm after the original film’s returning director, Tim Miller,left over creative differences.
