CBS Treks to a classic teaser…

Star Trek new series

We may have to wait until 2017 for a new Star Trek series (and then have to pay extra for it), but CBS has boldly released a trailer hinting at classic themes…

Early next year will see the return of Star Trek to tv screens. CBS is reviving the classic sf franchise and though there are very few specifics at this point, it is believed that the stories depicted will take place after the original series but before the Star Trek: The Next Generation era.

It is also believed that the series will follow the established television continuity rather than the rebooted franchise steered by J J Abrams. The series’ pilot will debut on CBS, but – somewhat controversially – the series proper will only be available through the subscription service CBS All Access, making this the first ‘pay per view’ version of televisual Star Trek.

CBS have released this trailer for the new series and though it’s low on specifics, the logo and famous theme is significantly upfront, suggesting a very classic feel.

You can keep an eye on developments on the series’ official site

In the meantime the cinematic arm of the franchise will continue with Star Trek: Beyond in July.
