It’s taken its time finding a way to boldly go, but we’re now in a position to see actual footage from the forthcoming new ‘Star Trek‘ series ‘Discovery‘…
There’s been a lot of rumours about the quality and the timeline of the next entry in the Star Trek series – not helped by shifting start dates and changes in production staff.
However we’ve finally got a look at what we can expect from Star Trek: Discovery which now seems on course to launch in the Autumn In the US it will air on subscription service CBS ‘All Access’ with plans for other territories to run it on other platforms (for instance, the UK audience will have to be Netflix subscribers).
We now know the series is set ten years before Kirk, Spock and the first voyage of the Enterprise. Certainly the scale of the piece looks impressive – perhaps taking a leaf (or grain) from the sandy dunes so front and centre in the recent Star Wars movies – the desert scenes were actually lensed in Jordan. One thing we can see is that there’s a very diverse cast – something that original Trek creator Gene Roddenberry was always eager to show when he could.
Action veteran and eastern icon Michelle Yeoh and The Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green (as Captain Philippa Georgiou and First Officer Michael Burnham respectively) feature prominently in the trailer and it is believed that much of the perspective of the series will come from Burnham’s character. We don’t know if Yeoh’s character will survive beyond the opener of the now fifteen-episode series, but we do know that Jason Isaacs is also on board for a command role and James Frain will be playing Spock’s father Sarek.
No exact air-date has been released, but expect that to be confirmed soon…
