Simm to investigate 'Intruders'

John Simm remains one of Britain's best actors. After genre-outings in Life on Mars and Doctor Who he may be 'intruding' for BBC America...

There have recently been rumours that we may be seeing the 'Master' (pictured, right) return to the screens in the next series of Doctor Who (which returns to screens later in the year). However should that be happening,  the chance of John Simm reprising the role might be in doubt unless he can fit it around starring in a major new genre series for BBC America entitled The Intruders.

Labelled as a 'contemporary paranormal drama', the series tells the tale of some (at first) seemingly unconnected but mysterious events that take place in America's Pacific Northwest.   Simm takes the important role of Jack Whelan, a writer who used to be a cop but left the job after he got sick of the darkness and the violence. He sought a quieter life with his wife Amy but when she goes missing, Whelan is forced to look back at his life and the confront some unpleaant truths. The supernatural element comes when it is revealed that a secret organisation is seeking immortality by using the bodies of others and the truth behind several connected events threatens to change our understanding  of human nature.

Based on the 'Intruders' novel by Michael Marshall Smith, the series, which was given the greenlight in October by BBC America, is written and executive-produced by Glen Morgan (The X-Files, Millennium, The Bionic Woman, The River etc).  BBC America are likely to be putting a lot of time, effort and money into what they will hope will be another success following the likes of Orphan Black and their broadcast of Doctor Who...

The versatile Simm is known well for his Life on Mars role as Sam Tyler but is equally known for  Human TrafficMad Dogs, The Devil's Whore, State of Play and The Village.
