The recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trailer has caused a divisive reaction with some people liking the beefed-up heroes in a half-shell and others saying it points more to testosterone than actual turtles. It may well be one of those films that we'll have have to simply wait and see to truly evaluate - ignoring the studio hype and the knee-jerk reactions until we have more to go on...
In the meantime, today's news probably won't make the opinions any less entrenched. Word comes via industry site Deadline that the decision has been made to recast two of the turtles. Of course, that doesn't mean actual reshoots (the film debuts in August in the US, October in the UK), but actually recasting the voices. Pete Ploszek was hired to play the role of Leonardo and his physical performance remains, however the voice will now be provided by Johnny Knoxville (Jackass, Bad Grandpa).
It's a similar situation with the Turtles' mentor Splinter being played by Danny Woodburn, but the character now being voiced by Monk / Men in Black's Tony Shaloub...
