In many ways it's simply a case of a movie studio and distributor finding a way to get maximum publicity for their film's release.... but you have to hand it to Edge of Tomorrow stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt for cranking up their frequent flyer miles and stamina when they set out to attend three of the film's premieres in different countries all on the same day.
The globe-hopping begins early on May 28th when the stars, along with director Doug Liman attend a Warner Bros. premiere in London starting at 7:00am. Then they'll leap to attend a similar event in Paris at 2:00pm before heading back across the Atlantic for another big screening in New York to take place just before midnight. The strategy and locations reflect part of the film's story-arc.
The plan is also to have a day of media interaction with live broadcasts and twitter conversations.
Edge of Tomorrow, adapted by Christopher McQuarrie from the works of Hiroshi Sakurazaka, was renamed from All You Need is Kill during production and tells the story of a soldier with no battlefield experience being sent to fight against an alien invasion but forced to relive the same day over and over again each time he dies. But he discovers one other soldier (Emily Blunt) may also be the key to his situation and Earth's survival...
The supporting cast also includes Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda and Tony Way.
The film debits in June.
