Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 14th April 2015

In a year of television and film projects for the resurgent Jean Claude Van Damme, Mike Leeder gives us a quick round-up of the latest JCVD offerings...

JCVD newsLooks like Impact's original cover star is going to be busier than ever... with new projects and the blu-ray release of some of his earlier classics.

While we're highly excited about Jean-Claude Van Damme's upcoming release Pound of Flesh (I think the Impact team just want to see me getting punched in the face a lot!) , there's a couple of other Van Damme projects to look forward to..

We are still hoping for a release of Jean-Claude's very personal project The Eagle Path, which was shot several years ago and has undergone re-shoots and various re-edits, there's several other projects to look forward to in addition to Pound of Flesh. The reboot of one of his early classics Kickboxer, as Kickboxer: Vengeance starring Alain Moussi, the late great Darren Shahlavi, Dave Bautistsa (Guardians of the Galaxy, Spectre), features Van Damme assuming the role of the mentor to the hero. JCVD also features in a cameo in the upcoming Chinese release Jian Bing Man/Pancake Man directed by Da Peng, which tells of a lowly pancake salesman who becomes an unlikely hero. Van Damme's cameo has been revealed by the release of a striking photo of Van Damme in the splits in a white suit... one that brings back memories of his first appearance in No Retreat No Surrender. The film will be released in China in mid-July.

There's also talk of Jean-Claude joining the horror comedy Girls with Balls, as the coach of a female volleyball team who are attacked by rednecks when their bus breaks down. Longtime friend of Jean-Claude, veteran martial artist Don Warrener has spoken of collaborating with Van Damme on a 30 DVD set of Self-Defense videos. And we have breaking news: Canal Plus has also announced a new action comedy TV series with Jean-Claude as the lead entitled JC1, while the end of the year should see Jean Claude re-teaming with the director of Swelter, for the action drama Remember Paris.

Two classic slices of 'Van Dammage', Black Eagle and A.W.O.L. aka Lionheart get a UK blu-ray release courtesy of 101 Films who will also be releasing a boxed set of Albert Pyun's Nemesis series and Mark Dacascos' Double Dragon.
