Marvel have confirmed that the God of Thunder will be returning to whip up another box-office storm in 2013 - but without its director, Kenneth Branagh...

Though Thor is busy tackling new villains, new team-mates and the machinations of director Joss Whedon on the set of The Avengers, plans are already underway for his singular return to the big screen. Marvel - and parent company Disney - have confirmed that the untitled sequel will hit cinemas on  July 26, 2013.

Chris Hemsworth will return to the titular role, but Kenneth Branagh will not be directing, though it is believed that he will still serve in some capacity, probably as a Producer. Deadline reports that the decision is an amicable one.

This does mean that another major name is being sort and with  $437 million (to date) taken worldwide on the original, the studio will want capable hands to help wield the directorial hammer ...
