Eastern Vampires feel the 'Love'

As we suggested recently, someone needs to make a big screen version of the vampires-meets-ninjas Undying Love comic - and now they are!

9 March 2012

Only a few months ago, Impact magazine reviewed the first issue of the Image comic Undying Love - created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman - and we commented that of the raft of recent new comic releases this was not only a great new entry, but a premise that positively screamed 'adapt me for the big screen'. Well, it's nice to know we have our fingers on the pulse...

Industry news-site Deadline reports that Alexandre Aja (who directed Piranha and The Hills Have Eyes remake) is currently in negotiations to bring a cinematic version of the comic to life. The concept comfortably mixes contemporary vampire mythology into an eastern setting - something that has been tried to various successful degrees before.  An ex-soldier, John Sargent, falls in love with the beautiful but deadly vampre Mei, but finds himself going up against the Triad and an army of the undead as he seeks to protect her from her own dangerous past.   It has a great micture of all-out action and eastern attributes, with the potential to play to a large crossover market.

There's no news on schedules or casting at the moment, but we think with the right people in place and good marketing, Undying Love has massive potential for distributor Warner Bros...
