Que sera, Sarah as ’13 Minutes’ novel gets adaptation…

13 Minutes

Everybody gets 15 minutes of fame, but acclaimed writer Sarah Pinborough is about to get ’13’ all in one go as the screen adaptation of her book gets the green light…

“They say you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but when you’re a teenage girl, it’s hard to tell them apart. My friends love me, I’m sure of it. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t try to kill me. Does it?”

One of the UK’s most talked-about authors, Sarah Pinborough has made a name for her darkly diverse novels, titles that include elements of horror, fantasy and pure crime. Now comes the next stage of her plans for world domination – a deal struck  with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (who brought audiences cult television shows such as The O.C. and Gossip Girl) for an adaptation of Pinborough’s 13 Minutes.

The YA (Young Adult genre) story tells of a high school student who dies under highly suspicious circumstances, but is brought back after being technically dead for those titular thirteen minutes. As the investigation begins in to what really happened – and the consequences of the event – her estranged best friend begins to realise that the search for the truth is uncovering a lot of other hidden secrets and social-media scandal than she could have imagined.

The book has been described as Gone Girl meets Mean Girls, so the pedigree of the Schwartz/Savage producing/writing team  is seen as a perfect choice.

Sarah’s other titles have also met with a lot of interest and include the likes of The Chosen Seed, The Shadow of the Soul, The Reckoning, Mayhem, The Language of Dying (winning the 2010 British Fantasy Award for Best Novella), Poison, Charm and Beauty (respectively retelling twisted versions of Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty) and original Torchwood stories.

13 Minutes is published by Gollancz
