EXCLUSIVE: Kickboxer’s One Knight in Bangkok?

Christopher Lambert

There can be only… ‘Retaliation’? It looks like Highlander’s Christopher Lambert has joined the cast of the latest ‘Kickboxer’ sequel…

We’ve heard on the Immortal grapevine that a certain Highlander could well be making an appearance in the next Kickboxer movie, Kickboxer: Retaliation.

Though we don’t know what role he is playing, Christopher Lambert has apparently been on the Bangkok set of the film for several days filming alongside the likes of Jean Claude Van Damme, Alain Moussi, Sara Malakul Lane, Nicolas Van Damme and Game of Thrones actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. Lambert has been busy this year with several projects including the likes of  the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! and the mini-series Mata Hari and has also taken part in promotional events celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of his famous sword-swinging epic. He recently joined Clancy Brown for a Q&A after a screening of the 4K restoration of the original Highlander in London and is apparently going to be joining series co-star Adrian Paul for a celebratory convention in Florida in December.

Lambert also revealed recently that another of his previous roles, Raiden in Mortal Kombat, may also be in line for a revisit after rumours of a third MK movie circulated once more…

Kickboxer: Retaliation comes hot on the heels of the recent Kickboxer revival, the soon-to-be-released Kickboxer: Vengeance – which brought Jean Claude Van Damme back into the rebooted franchise, this time taking the mentor role.  As well as Van Damme, Moussi and Lane, Vengeance also features the likes of Dave Bautista, Gina Carano and the late Darren Shahlavi. That film is due for release in the States in September and is likely to arrive in the UK around December. There are only a few official Kickboxer: Vengeance reviews out as yet, largely from festival screenings, though early word says Jean Claude Van Damme is actually the best thing in a film that can’t escape the shadow of the original and doesn’t really try…

We’ll have our own ‘Vengeance‘ review soon, closer to the release date… and more on Retaliation further down the line.
