The Marvel march to domination continues with Fox releasing the first full trailer for ‘The Gifted‘, a story that details a family thrust into drastic action when the government comes for their kids.
Feeling more at home alongside FX‘s Legion rather than the other Marvel television series (such as ABC‘s Agents of SHIELD and NETFLIX‘s Daredevil etc), the series stars Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Amy Acker (Buffy, Person of Interest) as parents who have to make a very fast and fateful choice with the revelation that both their offspring Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy (Percy Hines White) have mutant abilities… something that comes as a shock to Moyer’s character Reed Strucker whose job it has been to help hunt down fugitives in case they cause harm.
It’s interesting that the surname of the family has been changed to Strucker (from the original ‘Stewart’ in some original material) though it’s not known if the von Strucker bad-guy in the Marvel Universe has any connection. Jamie Chung will play Blink and Emma Dumont will play Lorna Dane, both characters familiar to the Marvel audience of comic fans.
The pilot is being directed by the X-Men‘s Bryan Singer, though the show-runner will be Matt Nix, most well known for his run on the cult hit Burn Notice. Fox has yet to schedule the series, though it is believed to be aiming for an autumnal debut. Would they place it next to Gotham, the network’s hit version of DC’s Batman legend… probably not but stranger things have happened.
