They Come, They Thor, They Conquer?

Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 28th August 2013

Come the latter part of this year, it appears action-fans won't be able to move without bumping into one Norse god or another...

Audiences looking forward to marvel's take on the Thor mythology - complete with Avengering accessories will be hititng UK screens in just a few months' time. But given that the studio doesn't own the copyright on mythical deities, it won't be the only verison of the Thunder God on show. The new trailer for director Yusry A Halim’s fantasy-actioner Vikingdom has just been released, the film stars Dominic Purcell from Prison Break, Craig Fairbrass from Cliffhanger, Natashia Milthe from DOA, Jon Foo from Tekken, and the man-mountain himself Conan Stevens from Game of Thrones and True Legend, as Thor himself.

What's their take on it? In the midst of time comes the clanging of steel against steel, a collision of myth and history.... Based on Viking legends and the epic poems they left as record, Vikingdom is a fantasy, action adventure about a forgotten king, Eirick, who was tasked with the impossible odds to defeat Thor, the God of Thunder. Thor (this non-Marvel bersion) is on a mission to gather the key ancient relics - "Mjolnir" - his hammer from Valhalla, "Necklace of Mary Magdalene" from Midgard (which surely mixes up various mythologies?) and the "Horn" from Helheim. This needs to be accomplished before the Blood Eclipse, which happens once every 800 years, failing which, the pagan Viking Gods will never be able to rule and conquer mankind ever again. Only one man can stop him... Eirick, the undead.

The film is released in a few less screens than Marvel's Thor: The Dark World in Malaysia in mid September with a limited theatrical 3D release in North America in October, just ahead of the bigger blockbuster. There's no word yet on its UK debut.
