Imagine if Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rogue, Romeo + Juliet, Strictly Ballroom) directed Gladiator and you have some idea of what we might expect from Marvel‘s Thor: Ragnarok, due from the studio at the end of the year.
With his home decimated by the power of Hela (Cate Blanchett), ruler of the land of Asgard’s dead and his mighty hammer broken into a thousand pieces, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself a prisoner on a distant planet, forced into an arena to fight at the will of his captors… but things could get complicated when he has to face… ‘a friend from work!’ in the form of a green-skinned Mark Ruffalo…
Perhaps taking a leaf out of the Guardians of the Galaxy playbook, almost everything about the trailer is loud, proud and retro (even including the title font) and there appears to be a raft of Easter-eggs and nods to Marvel‘s back-catalogue (is that a Celestial we see, alongside Jeff Goldblum and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, in the VIP-box?).
Other returning co-stars include Jaime Alexander. Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins and the debut of Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie.
