Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Likely Sequel?

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was a major breakthrough hit internationally - now another film from the same source material may be on the cards

Some thirteen years after Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon hit the screen to great critical and commercial acclaim, it appears that The Weinstein Company will be unleasing a sequel of sorts entitled Silver Vase, Iron Knight with a script by The Forbidden Kingdom’s John Fusco, based on the fifth book in Wang Du Lu’s Crane Iron Pentalogy, the same source material used by Ang Lee and James Schamus for the original film.

In a recent interview, it was revealed that the sequel will feature the character of Yu Shu-lien, played by Michelle Yeoh in the original,  Fusco commented ‘...this was an opportunity ti explore a lifelong passion for Wu Xia (Heroic Swordplay)and if there wasn’t continuing material, I would never have gotten involved...’

"This introduces a new generation of star-crossed lovers, and a new series of antagonists in a battle of good and evil. It has a 'Knights Errant' quality. There is an alternate universe in the books, a martial forest that exists alongside the real world, full of wandering sword fighters, medicine men, defrocked priests, poets, sorcerers and Shaolin renegades."

No word on whether Michelle Yeoh will be reprising her role, or of any confirmed cast and crew as yet, although Fearless and Bride with White Hair director Ronny Yu is rumoured to be in talks to be the director for the film, which TWC hopes to begin shooting this summer. Yu’s most recent project, the epic Saving General Yang will be released later in the year.
