No rest for the Wick’d. Sequel promises action x 2…

John Wick 2

After plenty of unofficial words, the official word came down this week that 2014’s action thriller John Wick is being measured up for a sequel –  and director Chad Stahelski has promised fans twice as much action as its predecessor.

John Wick 2Does that mean twice the box-office? The 2014 film didn’t flop by any means but rather than hit the heights that were hoped for by the studio, it became – instead – some of a cult, niche hit… well-reviewed, but will medium box-office.

Keanu Reeves will be returning to play the title role as the sequel follows hitman being forced out of retirement one again, this time by a past associate in order to complete a new mission.Joining the Matrix actor will be Thomas Sadoski and Bridget Moynahan  (both of whom be reprising their roles as Jimmy and Helen respectively from the first outing). There will also be a welcome new addition to the cast in the form of Orange is the New Black star Ruby Rose.

Chad Stahelski has opted to direct the sequel alone after working alongside David Leatch for the 2014 film, and has said, “I would say we have twice as much action as the first one. We took it all a full notch up as far as the driving car stuff went. A great portion of the car chase in the film is Keanu, which is very impressive.”

In advance of Lionsgate’s New York Comic-Con panel, where the trailer will receive its eagerly awaited premiere, a poster for the new film featuring Keanu back in character as Wick has been released to build the excitement and anticipation ahead of the trailer debut  on 8th October. (See right)

Will ‘John Wick: Chapter Two‘ prove to be a bigger hit than the original? We have to wait until February 10th next year to make that decision…
