Affleck’s Batman may not be granted ‘Asylum’…

Arkham Asylum

Popular rumours suggested the solo outing would be based in rather than the whole of Gotham, but with no official word, it seems everything is still to be nailed down…

Ben Affleck will be given another shot at playing the Dark Knight – in a standalone film following his  debut in the often critically-panned Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie.

The rumour mill has been circulating at full-speed in anticipation for the release… despite the official script not even being completed yet. One idea that had gathered pace was that the film was to be entirely based around Batman in Arkham Asylum with a variety of different villains running riot. This had created a buzz due to the fresh idea of focusing purely on the Asylum rather than the whole of Gotham, but this rumour has now been put to bed following an announcement on Twitter.

On ‘Batman Day’ – as it was christened by multimedia outlets –  popular tweeter and film reporter Umberto Gonzalez decided it was the opportune moment to put fans into a frenzy by tweeting, “What scoop can I give you on #BatmanDay? The standalone film DOES NOT take place entirely in Arkham with all the villains on the loose.”

Though that’s something of a ‘what it’s not‘ rather than ‘what it is‘ statement, fans who had previously been fairly sure they knew what to expect from Affleck’s  solo movie (which is currently untitled) have been sent back into debating mode, with many tweeting Gonzalez demanding more information and asking questions about the film… but it appears nothing is forthcoming.

So, despite claims, the status quo remains as clouded as ever. Given reactions to the latest films in the ‘DC/Warneverse‘ of characters, the film could really be heading in any direction.. No-one is commenting on rumours that  allies of Batman such as Robin or Nightwing (two characters that Dick Grayson has assumed at various points in continuity) might appear but it has been confirmed that the main villain will be the destructive mercenary who will be portrayed by Magic Mike star .

Affleck briefly reprised his role as Batman in Suicide Squad and will do so again in the Justice League films, so he will have had a few appearances under his belt as the popular superhero by the time this solo movie is eventually released, so hopefully it delivers…
