Marvel Studios' next big movie in its Phase Two plan, Guardians of the Galaxy, is about to start shooting and it has just added another prominent name to its already impressive cast list.
Karen Gillan - who until last year played Amy Pond (in Doctor Who, of course) - has been lined up for an unnamed role, but one that is believed to be the movie's lead female villain. Gillan joins a cast that already includes Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, Chris Pratt, Avatar/Trek's Zoe Saldana and wrestler David Bautista (The Man with the Iron Fists). Though specific details on the project remain unconfirmed, it is believed that Close will play the leader of the Nova Corps (think the cosmic version of SHIELD), Reilly will be human/alien liason Rhomann Dey, Pratt will be Peter Quill/Starlord, Bautista will be Draxx the Destroyer and Saldana will be the sultry Gamora. Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) and Michael Rooker (late of The Walking Dead) are set to play the other villainous roles...
The film is to be directed by James Gunn and will start shooting at Shepperton Studios at the end of June - and if everything stays to schedule, should open in cinemas on August 1st 2014.
