Star Wars’ Carrie Fisher in ICU after major in-flight emergency…

Carrie Fisher

Star Wars actress is believed to have suffered a major cardiac arrest shortly before her transatlantic flight touched down in Los Angeles. Latest UPDATED reports said she is now in intensive care…

It would seem that 2016, with barely a week to go, still wants to scare us silly with news of its grim reaping. Reports started circling mid-afternoon US time that Carrie Fisher had died of a massive heart-attack while on a flight from the UK to Los Angeles.

Thankfully those reports were slightly off the mark, though Fisher did indeed have a major cardiac arrest on the plane and is believed to have been without a pulse for a significant amount of time. However the latest report, coming from her brother, is that she was stabilised and rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where she is now in intensive care with no further improvement or deterioration in her condition. Some reports say she remains on a ventilator.

Police had initially confirmed only that a  woman in her 60s had been off the plane (United Airlines Flight 935)  when it arrived at LAX – met by paramedics who had been informed of the emergency which is said to have begun around 15 minutes before the flight landed.Fellow passengers with medical training assisted in attempts to keep her alive. Word had spread fast when fellow passengers took to social media and it initially seemed it was unlikely she could have survived. Updates noted that the parmaedics had eventually managed to get her pulse and begun the transfer to better medical attention.

Mark Hamill (who, of course, plays Luke Skywalker opposite her Princess Leia in Star Wars) tweeted out  ‘as if 2016 couldn’t get any worse… sending all our love to @carrieffisher‘ while peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) said ‘Thoughts and prayers for our friend and everyone’s favorite princess right now.. @carrieffisher

Fisher had been in the UK promoting her memoir ‘The Princess Diarist.and filmign scenes for the Amazon series Catastrophe.

Everyone at Impact wishes her well and hopes she makes a full recovery.
