Statham protects Homefront for Sly...

Away from the self-deprecating action-franchise, Stallone has penned the screenplay for his Expendables co-star Jason Statham...

A lot of people tend to forget that Sylvester Stallone may be a memorable action actor, but he's also got solid form behind the scenes. Not only is he the major force behind the tongue-in-cheek Expendables, but he wrote, produced and directed the more 'worthy'  and Academy-Award-winning Rocky... and has continued to encourage and mentor others in the business.

So it's always notable when there's a Stallone-relevant project that doesn't involve him being in front of the cameras.  Such is the case in Homefront a revenge thriller penned by Stallone, based on the book by Chuck Logan and starring Stallone's Expendable co-star Jason Statham -  the British actor who is often seen as being one of the major contemporary action stars and inheritors of the Stallone legacy. Statham - starring opposite the likes of James Franco, Winona Ryder, Kate Bosworth, and Frank Grillo - plays a widowed DEA agent who retires to a small town to raise his ten year old daughter. Of course, he's picked the wrong town at the wrong time - but the bad guys have picked the wrong guy with whom to mess.

Homefront, directed by Gary Fleder, is scheduled to begin its roll-out in November. Here's the trailer...
