Jaa joins Lundgren for 'Skin Trade'...

Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 16th September 2013

While doubts still circle over Fast & Furious 7, Thailand's Tony Jaa is pressing the flesh with Dolph Lundgren in revenge thriller Skin Trade...

After a few years away from the spotlight, it seems that Thailand’s premier martial arts hero Tony Jaa is making all sorts of news stories... good ones and more controversial  (see our latest report HERE). Either way it's a bit of a comeback a number of projects in various stages of production. Alongside the possibly problematic role in Fast & Furious 7, there’s the long awaited sequel Tom Yum Goong 2 (in 3D) and the Thai action comedy A Man Will Rise. Various sources indicated his rumoured attachment to the SPL sequel which is now in doubt.

But after teaming up on A Man Will Rise, Tony Jaa WILL be reunited with Dolph Lundgren for the action thriller Skin Trade, which will be directed by Beautiful Boxer helmer Ekachai Uekrongtham. The film will be based on a screenplay written by Dolph Lundgren with Universal Soldier 4 director John Hyams coming in to do a rewrite.

The plot: When a tough-as-nails New York cop finds his family murdered by a drug kingpin, he swears revenge and hops on a plane to pursue their killer to Bangkok. Once in the seedy Thai underworld, he teams up with a local detective to bust heads and right that which has been wronged... (cue ominous music...)

We’ll be interested to see how this project develops, as we’re still not too sure what to expect from A Man Will Rise. While our anticipation is high for Tom Yum Goong 2, it’ll be interesting to see how audiences in Asia (and Internationally) respond to Jaa’s long awaited return to the screen.
