Action is in Gina Carano's blood and after several high-profile outings, 2014 will see several high profile projects in her sights...

The former first lady of mixed martial-arts Gina Carano was given a major starring role debut in the thriller Haywire, written & directed by Stephen Soderbergh and which got her plenty of exposure with a solid supporting turn in Fast & Furious 6. Now Carano is returning to action headlining the thriller In The Blood not to be confused with the Andy Lau Cop flick from late 80s) directed by John Stockwell (Into the Blue, My Science Project)

When her husband goes missing during their Caribbean vacation, a woman (Gina Carano) sets off on her own to take down the men she thinks are responsible. The film also stars Stephen Lang (Avatar), Luis Guzman (Boogie Nights) Danny Trejo (Machete) and Treat Williams (Prince of the City).

According to Stockwell: “This role will showcase not only Gina’s fighting skills, but also her acting abilities as her character struggles to reign in her violent past.”

The film will have a limited theatrical run in April in North America before hittng VOD and Blu-Ray/DVD - an increasingly attractive revenue stream for recent inependent projects.

Carano’s name has also been attached to various projects including a female driven take on The Expendables, a role in a new adaptation of Bruce Lee’s The Silent Flute, and she was also rumoured as a potential Wonder Woman, although that role went to her Fast & Furious 6 co-star Gal Gadot .
