Style never goes out of fashion… and neither do sequels. Get ready for some more upper-lip action from the world of Mark Millar’s ‘Kingsman‘…
Kingsman: The Secret Service was the most recent film adaptation of Mark Millar’s work, based on the comic he wrote and which was illustrated by Dave Gibbons (of Watchmen fame). The screenplay was written by Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman and gave a uniquely different take on some James Bondian themes. It told the story of Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin (Taron Egerton), a boy from an Inner London housing estate whose life is turned upside down by the arrival of Harry Hart (Colin Firth) who is fulfilling a promise to a Eggsy’s late father (who was also – unknown to all – also secret agent). Harry introduces Eggsy to that beautifully-tailored, socially-etiquette-driven super secret spy organisation, but what starts as a mere opportunity for Eggsy to have a better life takes on bigger ramifications when it turns out the agency has a mole…
The film, which also starred Michael Caine, Samuel L. Jackson, Jack Davenport and even a cameo from mark Hamill, was unapologetic in its approach to action, fun and un-PC black humour was a significant hit (Vaughn’s most successful film to date) and we’ll shortly be getting a sequel. Avoiding the ‘2’ moniker, the sequel is called Kingsman: The Golden Circle and boasts not just the returning Edgerton but the likes of Julianne Moore, Channing Tatum, Halle Berry and Jeff Bridges… all clearly enjoying themselves.
In an era where we complain that trailers show us far too much of a film ahead of time… well, Vaughn and Co decide to rub our noses in it. But don’t blink or you’ll miss it all… (a slightly slower version is expected soon)
