Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch will finally make it to the screen, with Amazon Studios announcing the casting choice for the homicide detective...

Titus Welliver cast as Michael Connelly's Bosch for mazon StudiosAmazon may be better known in the mainstream for its books and DVD selling site, but over the last year or so, Amazon Studios have been gathering momentum as part of the wave of new multimedia/streaming entertainment platforms and starting to initiate a wave of homegrown multmedia drama projects that would allow it to compete with the likes of Netflix (who recently had a major success swith a US adaptation of political thriller House of Cards - receiving some landmark Emmy nominations in the process). Though Amazon ultimately passed on a privisional plan to bring a version of the Zombieland movie to screens as a television series, it looks as if there's some significant movement on another high-profile venture for the studio.

Bosch is a proposed procedural detective series that is based on the moody lead character Heironymous 'Harry' Bosch (named after the famous painter), a LA Homicide detective in over twenty of Michael Connelly's acclaimed series of novels going back to the early 1990s. Deadline reports that actor Titus Welliver - whom fans will recognise from the likes of LOST, Sons of Anarchy, Deadwood and The Good Wife, looks to be the actor of choice for the title role. Connelly has written the pilot episode with Treme co-creator Eric Overmeyer and both will act as executive producers. Talks about the Bosch go back some time, but it wasn't until the last eighteen months or so, with Connelly and Paramount settling a dispute about the screen rights to his character before things could move forward.

Connelly's next novel, The Gods of Guilt, featuring another of his characters Mickey Haller (as played by Matthew McConaughey in The Lincoln Lawyer adaptation) is out in November from Orion.
